SAFEGUARDING THE PAST AND FUTURE OF WAIWERA

The original Waiwera bathhouses sat on the beach, near the original artesian source from which the water came.
Over the centuries, business and construction constantly changed in the area. The bathhouses fell into ruin and today stand only as a testament to what once was.
In the 1900s, the Waiwera waters were known as ‘The Doctor’ for their healing properties on the human body.
Waiwera wishes to give some of this healing back, and is currently in the development stages of a thirty-year plan to restore several historic buildings and landmarks within the area. Developments will centre on developing the Waiwera resort into an internationally recognised aqua-tourism destination.

Early 2012 will signify the open architecture proposal for eco-friendly restorations, conducted by The Waiwera Society.
To put New Zealand back on the map with one of its original tourist attractions.
