LOCAL AFFILIATIONS

Before you go global, you need to focus on what’s at home.
Waiwera has a long history with the local Maori community. Long before the European colonisation, Maori were bathing in Waiwera’s healing waters, and had gone so far as to name it ‘Te Rata’ (The Doctor).

Out of respect for this history, Waiwera has been talking with local iwi (tribes) about several developments in the proximity of the resort.
One plan would be to restore the local marae (traditional meeting house).
Waiwera is also developing a plan to return to the roots of the local community, in support of local art, heritage and culture.
To show respect for our history and the people who helped create it.
